Placenta acts as endocrine tissue and produces several hormones like Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG), Human Placental Lactogen (hPL), estrogens, progesterone, etc. In the later phase of pregnancy, a hormone called Relaxin is also secreted by the ovary.
